Alfa Mustapha, 50, was shot dead at close range on his property in Ageri Village, near Olodo, Odeda LGA, Ogun State.
Following an unidentified attack, Mustapha’s corpse was found on Saturday, February 22.
CSP Omolola Odutola, spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the murder on Sunday and said detectives have initiated a complete investigation.
Around 6:30 p.m., Ageri Mosque Chief Imam Moshood Mustapha reported the incident to the Olodo Police Outstation.
He said the victim went to his farm in the morning but never returned.
At 6:02 p.m., the Imam went to the farm he was worried about and found Mustapha face-up with his cutlass.
Officers from the police department went to the scene and verified that the victim had passed away.
However, because of the heavy rainfall and the limited visibility at night, there were no immediate traces of violence found on the body.
Photographs were taken at the scene, and the deceased person’s body was sent to the General Hospital in Odeda for a medical evaluation.
“A doctor’s assessment later revealed that the deceased had suffered bullet wounds from pellets, indicating he was shot at close range. The body has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further forensic examination.
“In response to this disturbing incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an intensive investigation to identify and apprehend the perpetrator(s).
“He has also assured the public that the Command will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice.
“The Command urges anyone with useful information that could aid the investigation to come forward and assist the police. Such information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.”
