The Kogi State Police Command has solicited the support of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Alhaji Tijani Ahmed-Anaje, to combat crimes and other criminal offenses in the state.
This move is part of the command’s efforts to foster a stronger relationship between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions.
Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye, accompanied by Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 8, AIG Abubakar Zubairu, paid a courtesy visit to the Ohinoyi to seek his royal blessings and support.
Dantawaye commended the Ohinoyi for his proactive leadership in addressing security challenges within the Egbira Kingdom, particularly his swift intervention in preventing a planned protest by some Ebira youths.
The CP described the Ohinoyi as a leader of great integrity, humility, and wisdom, acknowledging his efforts in fostering peace, unity, and youth development in the region.
He also highlighted the AIG’s extensive experience and unwavering commitment to upholding law and order, expressing confidence that under their leadership, the safety and security of Kogi State will be further enhanced.
The police command reassured the Ohinoyi of its commitment to maintaining peace and stability, stating that it remains proactive in tackling crime, preventing unrest, and strengthening community policing efforts.
The CP urged other traditional leaders to continue working closely with security agencies by providing intelligence and sensitizing their subjects on the importance of law and order.
In response, the Ohinoyi expressed his gratitude for the visit and commended the police’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of lives and property in Kogi.
He acknowledged the challenges of policing in a dynamic society and urged officers to remain professional, just, and fair in their dealings with citizens.
This development comes as the state grapples with security challenges, including the recent murder of the Elepe of Ohi-Ogidi in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Chief Ojo Olayinka, by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.
