A fire broke out at an MTN booster station located within the University of Ibadan’s Faculty of Nursing premises on Saturday, February 22, 2025. The blaze was caused by an electrical surge, which damaged the Mikano generator, board, and other telecommunications equipment.
The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident and praised the prompt response of firefighters from the agency and the university. “Our team, led by ACFS Olubunmi, quickly extinguished the fire, preventing further damage,” he said.
The fire was reported at 04:00 hrs, and firefighters arrived promptly to contain the situation. The swift response ensured that the fire was completely extinguished, minimizing potential disruptions to university operations.
