The Nigeria Police Force has advised Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to suspend the local government elections scheduled for February 22, citing security concerns.

Security Threats and Legal ComplexitiesJoint intelligence assessments revealed that various groups, including political elements, are mobilizing to instigate unrest and disrupt public peace.

Additionally, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, pointed to a recent Court of Appeal judgment that nullifies an earlier Federal High Court ruling on local government administration in Osun State.

“The Nigeria Police Force has received credible intelligence indicating a high likelihood of violence and significant security threats should the planned local government elections proceed in Osun State,” said Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Adejobi appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, to exercise restraint and prioritize the safety and well-being of citizens during this period.
