The Oyo State Government launched the Grievance Redress Committee on Friday to handle rural road building complaints.

At the inauguration in Oluyole Local Government Area, state Agribusiness Development Agency Director-General Debo Akande stressed the significance of following the committee’s terms of responsibility to ensure project success.

In Ibadan, the state capital, state Commissioner for Information Dotun Oyelade cited Akande as adding, “the GRC will enhance co-existence between the contractors and the beneficiary communities, as part of prerequisite of the RAAMP.”

The DG praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his willingness to turn the state’s rural landscape into an agro-driven economy.

Adeola Ekundayo, State Project Coordinator of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project, inaugurated the GRC by saying its main goal is to address grievances from affected communities, particularly farmers whose lands may be affected by construction, to improve hitch-free civil works.

To stimulate the economy, Ekundayo urged contractors to hire poor local people and handle grievances fairly.

Akeem Olatunji, chairman of Oluyole Local Government, promised maximum security during and after the exercise and that “his administration will continue to strive for the development of the council.”
