Osun LP candidates want LG poll postponed for legal, security reasons.
The candidates of the Labour Party (LP) for the next local government election in Osun State have requested that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) postpone the election.
They have cited unresolved legal problems and logistical issues as the reasons for their request.
During a news conference held in Osogbo on Friday, the candidate for the chairmanship of the Labour Party for the Osogbo local government, Barrister Jimoh Oyebode, and the LP State Chairman, Comrade Bello Adebayo, expressed their dissatisfaction with the way in which OSIEC handled the preparations for the election.
Oyebode said, “The electoral body has refused to provide us with essential materials needed for the election.
“We have been at their office since yesterday to collect identification tags for our party agents, yet as of 4 PM on Friday, we have received nothing.
“It is crucial that the security of our people is guaranteed before calling them out to vote.
“The recent unrest at council secretariats poses a serious risk, and OSIEC should postpone the election until the crisis is resolved.”
Additionally, Comrade Bello Adebayo voiced his disapproval of the lack of preparedness displayed by OSIEC.
He pointed out that the absence of election materials and personnel creates significant questions regarding the credibility of the process.
As long as these concerns are not resolved, the Labour Party maintains that the election should not take place as planned.
