Lateef Fagbemi advised Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke to halt the LG election.

Osun State Government has been urged by Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), not to proceed with the planned Local Government election on February 22.

Fagbemi argued that any such election will be invalid. Because the term of office of the elected officials just restored by the Court of Appeal will expire in October 2025 and an egregious breach of the Constitution, which Governor Adeleke has sworn to uphold.

The AGF urged Governor Adeleke to follow the law and not incite violence in Osun State in a statement on Thursday night.

“Nobody benefits from violence.  It is, therefore, of utmost importance for Governor Adeleke to advice Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) to shelve the idea of proceeding with any Local Government Election now.”
