The Federal Government has announced plans to conduct promotion exams for senior cadre officers in the nation’s paramilitary services.

This move aims to address existing vacancies at top management levels across the four paramilitary agencies. The Federal Fire Service, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Correctional Service, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, disclosed this during a media briefing following the board’s meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

He however emphasized that the vacancies exist at senior managerial levels and need to be filled in line with the federal character principle.

Key Highlights:- Eligible Officers: Officers below the ranks of Deputy Controllers and Assistant Controllers will be considered for promotion.

– Screening and Examination: A rigorous screening exercise will be conducted, followed by an examination to select eligible officers.

– Timeline: The accreditation of officers will take place from March 9 to March 11. And the exercise should be concluded by the end of March.

– Significance: Filling these positions will enhance service efficiency and management, addressing the issue of officers covering duties without formal appointments.

This development comes after the federal government approved the promotion of 20,867 senior officers. The Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the Federal Fire Service in September 2023.
