NYSC has removed corps members from the Mbaa community located in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
As a result of reports of attacks by suspected armed herders, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has removed corps members from the Mbaa community located in the Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
These attacks resulted in the deaths of over twenty individuals, including sixteen farmers whose bodies were found in the River Katsina-Ala.
During a statement that was issued on Thursday, February 20, Yahuza Adamu, who is the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations for the National Youth Service Corps in Benue, said that the decision was made because of the continued attacks that have been against the community.
The parents and guardians were given reassurance by Adamu, who stated that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Benue continues to be dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of its corps members and is working along with security authorities to secure their protection.
“Since the beginning of incessant attacks on Mbaa Community which shares boundary with the Republic of Cameroon, NYSC withdrew all Corps Members from the area, and has not posted any there till date.
“All Corps Members serving in Jato Acka Turan, which is far away from the affected community, are not exposed to any security threat.
“As a matter of policy, NYSC consistently takes proactive steps to mitigate risks and ensure that Corps Members receive the necessary protection at all times.”
