In an effort to forestall the loss of additional lives and property, the administration of the Federal University in Lokoja, which is located in the state of Kogi, has indefinitely shut down the institutional establishment.

On Thursday, February 20, all of the newsmen in Lokoja were given access to a statement that was signed by Dr. Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie, who serves as the Registrar of the institution and the Secretary to the Council.

IREPORT247NEW reported the incident, which took place at approximately 2:30 p.m., resulted in students deaths.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the school shuttle bus, which was loaded with students and was on its way to transport them to school. The shuttle bus was smashed to pieces by the truck.

Since the accident that occurred on Monday, February 17, which resulted in the deaths of five students attending the university, the administration asserted that the students had blocked the main gate of the university, making it difficult for new students to enter the campus.

The statement reads, “The closure followed the unfortunate loss of lives of five students to a tragic trailer accident at Felele, on Monday 17th February, 2025.

“Since the incident, students have barricaded the gates of the university despite magnanimous intervention from the state government as well as frantic efforts and appeals by the university management for calm.

“Accordingly, arising from the advice of the state security agencies and to forestall further loss of lives and prosperity, the vice chancellor after due consultation with the management has decided on behalf of the Senate that the university, both campuses be closed down indefinitely.

“Students are to vacate campuses on or before 12 noon on Thursday, February 20.”
