Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) was awarded the contract to construct the 98-kilometer Oyo-Ogbomoso road, however the federal government has decided to terminate the contract.
This information was provided by Engr. Dave Umahi, the Minister of Works, at an interaction with Federal Roads Stakeholders that took place on Thursday in Ibadan.
The event’s topic was “Enhancing Federal Roads in Oyo State: Challenges and Sustainable Solutions.”
According to Umahi, the project has been overdue for a very long time.
He assured the audience that the project would soon be re-awarded to another contractor in a short amount of time, despite the fact that the minister, who was represented, stated that the project has been backlogged for a very long time.
Olamijuwonlo Alao-Akala, a congressman who represents the Ogbomoso North, South, and Oriire Federal Constituency, expressed his discontent with the current condition of the road.
He complained that the fact that the road has not been completed as it was supposed to be has stifled the economic growth of not only the region, but of Oyo state in general.
In addition to that, he stated that the number of accidents that are being seen on the road is really concerning.
Complaints were also received from stakeholders ranging from Iseyin-Oke-Ogun to Saki on the poor condition of the route.
In addition, they expressed their dissatisfaction with the impassability of the Ago Are-Igboho-Kishi-Ehin Igbeti route, among other roads.
Stakeholders expressed concerns about the Oyo end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway collapsing.
While contractors of the N3.5 billion Ibadan-Oyo Expressway and N4.5 billion Ibadan-Ife Road complained about insufficient funding.
However, they assured stakeholders that the contracts would be completed soon if adequate funding is available.
