Zlatan Ibrahimovic slammed AC Milan for ‘killing themselves’ as they were knocked out of the Champions League by Feyenoord.
The Swede, now Milan’s senior adviser, also criticised the decision to send off theo hernandez for diving the 1-1 draw at San Siro, but reserved most of his ire for underperforming players as they were knocked out 2-1 on aggregate.
Milan seemed to be on top in the tie when Santiago Gimenez gave his side the lead on the night and levelled the aggregate score at 1-1 inside the first minute on Tuesday. Hernandez was then sent off for diving in the 51st minute before Julian Carranza delivered the fatal blow with 17 minutes to play.
Ibrahimovic said Feyenoord were not better than us, we just killed ourselves. We are disappointed. The referee has been severe with Theo Hernandez with no warning before the red card. Theo is not an actor, he does his best.
Milan’s focus returns to Serie A, where they sit seventh and are in contention to qualify for Europe again next season.
