A man named Emmanuel Fasuyi, who is 32 years old, was brought before a Magistrates’ Court in Akure on Wednesday. He is accused of killing his neighbor Grace Ogunsulire, who is 65 years old, after stealing from her home.
One count of murder was brought against Fasuyi by the police. At approximately twelve o’clock in the afternoon on September 16, 2024, the offense was committed at No. 1 Oke-Itura Street in the town of Yaba Ondo, according to the Prosecution Counsel, Owolabi Edu, who testified in court.
One of the allegations made by the prosecutor was that Fasuyi had brutally murdered Ogunsulire by striking her in the head with an object.
Edu asserts that the defendant broke into the residence of the deceased person with the intention of stealing, which he did without being aware that the deceased person was inside the house.
According to him, the defendant immediately approached the deceased once he saw her coming out of her restroom and introduced himself.
He then proceeded to attack her with an instrument on the head, which ultimately resulted in her passing away.
According to him, the offense was in violation of the provisions of Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State with regard to the year 2006.
It was strongly recommended by the prosecutor that the court remand the defendant to the correctional center until the Director of Public Prosecution, also known as the DPP, provides their advice.
Mrs. R.I. Adelakin, the Magistrate, has decided to postpone the case until February 25, 2025, so that the determination and hearing of the application can take place.
Consequently, he issued an order that the defendant be remanded to the Special Criminal Investigation Department in Akure.
