Justice Olusegun Odusola, the state’s chief judge, has received a plea from the family of Tolu Bobade, 17, who was allegedly tortured to death by police officers from the Divisional Police station in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State. The family is demanding justice.

According to IREPORT247NEW, the police-arrested youngster allegedly died as a result of mistreatment while in their care.

Angry youths in the neighborhood set fire to the police station and invaded it in protest of his passing.

The Divisional Police Station in Ifon was set on fire, and five suspected arsonists have been taken into custody by state police.

Wilfred Afolabi, the state police commissioner, made this announcement in Akure, the state capital, and said that a thorough inquiry had been started into the occurrence.

The family, however, demanded in the petition filed by Dupe Bobade that the events surrounding Tolu’s arrest, confinement, and subsequent death be thoroughly investigated.

The petition brought to the Chief Judge’s attention that Mr. Bobade, who was seventeen years old, died without cause and in violation of Nigerian law.

It stated that Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Isadare Funminiyi, gave officials of the Ifon Police Division the order to arrest Tolu on February 14, 2025.

According to the family, Tolu was severely tortured while in custody, which is how he died on February 15, 2025.

It stated, “In a grievous attempt to obscure their misconduct, the officers transported his lifeless body to Adelabu Hospital in Ifon, where it was rejected.

“Subsequently, they moved his remains to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, in Owo, where it was deposited in the morgue on their own without the knowledge of the family.”
