Delta State Government has unveiled a whistle-blower policy aimed at empowering citizens to report substandard and poorly executed projects across the state.

The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, announced the initiative at a press briefing in Asaba, stating that the move aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to ensuring value for money in public projects.

Key Features of the Policy

– Dedicated Hotline: Residents can send text messages, WhatsApp messages, pictures, and videos of substandard projects to a dedicated whistle-blower hotline at 09169978305.

– Accountability: The policy provides an avenue for Deltans to participate actively in governance by holding contractors and government officials accountable.

– Protection for Whistle-Blowers: Aniagwu assured that whistle-blowers’ identities would be protected, stressing that the policy is designed to expose individuals or agencies attempting to shortchange the state.

According to Aniagwu, reports have already started coming in, less than 24 hours after the hotline was made public, with concerns raised about some projects failing to meet required standards. The government has made it clear that value for money is non-negotiable, and action will be taken against both contractors and government officials who fail in their responsibilities.
