The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended 13 members for three months due to their opposition to the removal of Chief Judge Justice Maurice Ikpambase.
The members had dissociated themselves from the removal decision, describing it as “unconstitutional” and violating principles of separation of powers and fair hearing.
The suspended members include:
– Makurdi South: Mr. Douglas Akya
– Katsina-Ala East: Mr. Jonathan Agbidye
– Gboko East: Mrs. Beckie Orpin- Ushongo
-Mata: Mr. Simon Gabo
– Agasha: Mr. Williams Ortyom
– Oju 1: Mr. Onah Blessed
– Gwer East: Mr. Elias Audu
– Kwande East: Mr. Anyor Mato
– Tarka: Mr. Manger Manger
– Gwer West: Mr. Solomon Gyila
– Ogbadibo: Mr. Samuel Agada
– Buruku: Mr. Abraham Jabi
– Ukum: Mr. Ezra Nyiyongo
The House condemned the members’ actions, stating they had voted for the removal but later denied it, thereby contravening the House Standing Rules.
