The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that it is necessary to prevent Osun State’s local government chairmen and council members from going back to their positions.
The chances of them being reinstated in their positions are extremely slim, according to a statement made by PDP National Publicity Secretary Mr. Debo Ologunagba on behalf of the “national leadership of PDP,” who advised them to “perish the thought.”
Ologunagba stated, “The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cautions the sacked Osun State Local Government Chairmen and Councilors to perish the thought of forcing themselves back into office as such will amount to a futile venture with dire consequences.”
Ologunagba stated that the Court to Appeal’s ruling invalidated former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s attempt to elect local government executives, expressing the PDP’s belief that “the fate of the ousted Local Government Chairmen and Councilors was sealed.”The PDP further charged that by contesting the decision, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was trying to stir up trouble.
The PDP claims that the procedure did not sufficiently follow the laws governing the State’s local government elections. It further emphasized that Osun State’s APC must accept the ruling of the judiciary and get ready for the new local elections that the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has scheduled.
The PDP claimed that APC supporters were involved in recent altercations that resulted in casualties and urged law enforcement to look into reports of violence in the state.
The party therefore urged the Inspector General of Police to hold accountable those who cause any disturbances in Osun State.
