Early on Monday morning, members of the Nigeria Police and Department of State Security (DSS) raided the Lagos State House of Assembly, sealing the offices of Speaker Mojisola Meranda, her deputy, and the house clerk.

Armed security guards have taken over the areas in Alausa, Ikeja, and the surrounding area as of ten in the morning, frisking everyone who comes in contact with them.

But at around 11.15 a.m., Meranda and her convoy arrived.

Recall that state parliamentarians are being sued by Mudashiru Obasa, the troubled former Speaker of the House, who is contesting his dismissal as Speaker of the Assembly.

According to information obtained, Obasa has filed an application at the State High Court’s Ikeja Division, asking for an expedited hearing of his lawsuit.

On January 13, 2025, 32 of the state Assembly’s 40 members dismissed Obasa in absentia. He was in the United States of America when President Bola Tinubu deposed him in what he called a “coup.”

Members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest political decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, are split over Obasa’s dismissal, which has sparked controversy.
