The zonal secretary, Chief Felix Omemu, was suspended by the PDP South-South Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) yesterday for a month due to allegations of misconduct and unapproved media statements that discredited the ZEC meeting in Benin.
Omemu had said in a statement released in Yenagoa that the meeting called by Chief Dan Orbih was unlawful and that the zonal working committee’s approval was required in accordance with the PDP constitution.
Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule, Speaker of the River State House of Assembly, proposed at the South South Zonal Executive Committee meeting in Benin that Chief Felix Omemu, the Zonal Secretary, be suspended.
The motion was seconded by Godwin Offiono, a member of the 10th National Assembly who represents the Ogoja/Yala constituency.
Chief Felix Omemu was charged by Amaewhule with misbehavior, betraying confidence, and inciting discord among members.
He said, “Chief Felix Omemu must be suspended and a Disciplinary committee set-up to investigate the zonal secretary.”
George Turnah, the PDP zonal legal adviser, was promptly selected to serve as the Acting zonal secretary after the suspension.
Chief Dan Orbih, the National Vice Chairman (South-South), praised ZEC for the suspension, stating that it is a positive start toward reorienting the party and reducing the excesses of certain leaders and party members that have caused division among others.
