The protesters alleged that the ministry of transportation, in collaboration with the union chairman, has been charging them N200 daily, additional fees making their daily levy N750, contrary to the N550 announced by the Enugu State government.
The tricycle protesters, who gathered at Edinburgh in the Enugu North Local Government Area, called on Governor Peter Mbah to intervene urgently on the issue.
One of the protesters, who identified himself as Anike Calistus, lamented the harassment and extortion they face on a daily basis from the taskforce team from the Ministry of Transport, with the state union chairman also, they only care about their personal profit alone, but not about the welfare of the riders Calistus said.
Stanley Another protester also said that some group from the state Ministry of Transport also forces them to pay N1000.
In the midst of that, there are other groups that call for clarification on the levies and rules for Keke riders in the state.the protesters also demanded for the removal of the union chairman in the state and the commissioner for transport over corruption allegations.
They urged the Enugu State Government to address their grievances and to ensure there is transparency in the collection of levies in the state.
The protesters therefore called on the state government to please take solid steps to address the issue of corruption and extortion they face on daily bases.
But the state government is yet to respond to the allegations made by the tricycle riders at this time.
