A fire has ravaged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Gwadabawa Local Government Area, Sokoto State. According to INEC’s National Commissioner, Sam Olumekun, the fire broke out on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, damaging the entire building.

The blaze destroyed essential items, including 558 ballot boxes, voting enclosures, election bags, and Registration Area Centre materials. Preliminary investigations suggest a power surge may have triggered the fire, but security agencies are investigating the actual cause.

Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. INEC is now seeking a temporary alternative facility to ensure its activities continue uninterrupted.
