A devastating road accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday in Kano State, resulting in the loss of seven lives and leaving over 40 persons injured.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened when a heavy-duty truck experienced brake failure, lost control, and overturned beneath the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge in Nassarawa local government area of Kano State.

The truck, which was heading to Lagos State from Takai local government area of Kano State, was reportedly carrying approximately 70 passengers, along with livestock, when the accident occurred at midnight on Thursday.

Witnesses described the harrowing scene, stating that the trailer slipped inside the underpass, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. While some victims were rescued, others tragically died on the spot.

Alhaji Saleh Karsha, the ward head of Karsha Gabas in Takai LGA, identified the bodies of five victims, including that of his son, Baban Jummai, which has been released to him. He confirmed that the death toll had risen to seven, with more than 40 injured victims receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community, highlighting the need for improved road safety measures and stricter regulations on the transportation of passengers and goods.

As the families of the victims mourn their loved ones, the authorities are urged to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the accident and take necessary steps to prevent such tragedies in the future.
