Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a Nigerian musician who has acquired a stake in San Diego FC, a Major League Soccer (MLS) team in the United States.

In a transaction made possible by Pave Investments, an African private investment organization well-known for its involvement with NBA Africa, Tems purchased a share in the team through her business, The Leading Vibe.

She makes history by becoming the first African woman to purchase MLS property.

On Wednesday, February 13, the club released a statement announcing the two-time Grammy Award winner’s admission.

Tems will be a club partner, supporting San Diego FC’s mission of excellence and community involvement, the team announced.

Tems expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration and said football is a great way to bring people together.

“I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community.

“Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”
