The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed recent reports on missing of 3,907 firearms from it armouries, stating that the claims are misleading and do not reflect the reality of the situation.

The statement issued on Thursday, by the Police Public Relation Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi says the allegations was stemmed from a 2019 audit report by the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation and did not indicate any disappearance of arms

The report states that 3,907 arms where unaccounted for, not missing, as stepulated n the news

However the police on Thursday, maintained that such figures do not reflect the current statues of their armouries, noting that weapons assigned to officers for opreations may not always be present during audits, and this may lead to misconseptions regarding the accuracy of audit reports, Adejobi explained

He also highlighted that some arms where lost due to attacks on police formations, particularly during civil unrest, where several officers where killed and there arms caterd away, however effort have been made to recover these arms, and many have been accounted for .

Adejobi also clarified that Egbetokun was not present during the Senate discussion on the missing firearms, contrary to report suggesting otherwise.
