Rep. Salisu Koko, who represented Kebbi State’s Koko-Besse/Maiyama Constituency in the House of Representatives, is another member of the PDP who has defected to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in less than 48hours after Amos Gwamna Magaji, who is also a previous member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the House of Representatives, switched to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on the floor of the house at Wednesday’s plenary in Abuja, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas instructed the APC caucus to accept Koko as one of them. Koko cited the ongoing crisis inside the opposition PDP as the reason for his defection, according to Abbas.

Rep. Kingsley Chinda, the minority leader, brought up a point of order, stating that the PDP was not experiencing a “prolonged” crisis.

Chinda called on the house to recognize the repercussions of desertion in the absence of adherence to the constitution’s provisions.
Supporting Rep. Ben Etanabene, the minority leader, emphasized what he saw as the defection’s implications, which he claimed were a vacation of the lawmaker’s seat.

The point order was overruled by the speaker, who claimed that the house lacked the authority to carry out such constitutional obligations.

Therefore, he asked the irate MPs to bring the matter up with the proper authorities.
