In anticipation of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, which is set for Saturday, February 15, 2025, the Lagos State Government has announced an eight-hour road closure and traffic diversion.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the State Commissioner for Transportation, made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that the marathon will start at the National Stadium in Surulere and start at 1:00 pm.

Starting at Surulere’s National Stadium, the marathon will follow the route:

Ikorodu Road in the direction of Anthony (Bertola)

The Third Mainland Bridge to Gbagada

Entering Lagos Island via Dolphin Road

Bourdillon Road, Falomo Roundabout, and Alfred Rewane Road

Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge crossing to Admiralty Way

Ahmadu Bello Way, Akin Adesola, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, ending at Eko Atlantic.

Concrete barriers will be erected at crossings, junctions, and adjacent roads to guarantee safety and stop illegal access to the racing corridor. LASTMA, NPF, FRSC, LSNC, and LAWMA traffic officials will be positioned at key locations.

To guarantee smooth transportation throughout the marathon, the following alternate routes have been planned:

From Ikeja, take Funsho Williams Avenue/Ikorodu Road, over the Eko Bridge, and continue via Outer Marina.

From Badagry or Mile 2: Travel via Orile to Apapa, connect with Eko Bridge, and proceed through Outer Marina.

From Surulere, enter the island via Iponri/Iganmu, which connects Eko Bridge to Outer Marina

From Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Mowe and environs): Take the Ojota Slip Road, link Ikorodu Road, and continue through Funsho Williams Avenue to Eko Bridge

From Okota, take Mile 2/Orile, which connects to Eko Bridge and Outer Marina

From Sango-Otta, go through Mushin, connect Funsho Williams Avenue, and continue to Eko Bridge

From Epe-Lekki Expressway (Ajah and environs): Use Marwa Junction, connect Admiralty Way, and cross the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge.

From Lagos Island, take a detour to Apongbon Bridge and then Eko Bridge to reach Bode Thomas, Iponri, and the Costain Roundabout.

Another option is to drive over Victoria Island, cross the Independence Bridge, and continue on through Apongbon to Herbert Macaulay Road and Ijora-Olopa.

The Third Mainland Bridge will stay open for drivers going to the mainland but will be closed to traffic approaching Lagos Island.

As part of traffic management plans for the 10th Edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Osiyemi called for patience and reassured locals that traffic management officials would be on hand to minimize disruptions.

He also encouraged the public to plan their trips appropriately by using alternate routes and other modes of transportation.
