Rachael, a 26-year-old woman, has described how, unable to provide for her infant, she sold her two-week-old child for N600,000.

Rachael, who lives in Asaba, Delta State, was paraded at the State Police Command with the two other conspirators by Mr. Bright Edafe, the command’s police public relations officer.

It was disclosed that a 42-year-old woman looking to adopt a child purchased the baby for N4 million, but the mother only received N600,000.

She said, “I gave the baby away because l am the only one taking care of the child.”

When asked how she took care of herself during her pregnancy, Rachel said, “I took care of myself; I struggled, I was going to people’s compound to clean and do some other chores.”

She claimed that the father of the two-week-old child denied paternity of the child, whom she claimed to have given birth to on January 27, 2025.

She claimed that she was introduced to a woman who she asked for assistance because she lacked the funds to support two children, and that the woman gave her N600, 000 and said she should settle her and she gave her N30,000.

The woman, whose identity has been withheld, acknowledged giving the mother N600,000 and claimed to have sold the child for N3.5 million. She claimed that the child’s mother informed her that she intended to use the funds to start a company.

The 42-year-old woman who had applied to adopt the child, meantime, claimed to have paid N4 million.

“There is a lady in my area that l told that I wanted to adopt a child legitimately,” she added.

She claimed to have received guarantees that the child’s adoption paperwork was being completed.
