The Kebbi State Government has started plans to support a mass wedding for 300 couples in the state on February 27, 2025.

Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, the chairman of the organizing committee, told reporters in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, February 9, that the wedding is being organized in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS), an NGO.

He said that several committees have been established with specific responsibilities, including HIV/AIDS testing, pregnancy testing, genotype testing, and other legally required marriages in the state.

He claimed that the mass wedding fulfilled a pledge made by Governor Nasir Idris during the previous mass wedding that it would be done on a regular basis to help the less fortunate get married.

According to Argungu, the state government will give each bride from the state’s 21 LGAs a dowry of N180,000, which works out to N54 million for the 300 recipients.

“Other additional items will be provided such as room furniture and foodstuffs to all the couples to consolidate their marital relationship.”
