Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, has given an explanation for keeping Nico O’Reilly over the winter transfer window.
Last week, it was revealed that City had turned down Chelsea’s bid to recruit the young midfield player.
Guardiola added, “We have a lot of injury issues right now, therefore we are unable to loan or sell players.
We have a lot of games and we need O’Reilly, James McAtee, and Divin Mubama.”
Regarding the 19-year-old, Guardiola remembered last season’s O’Reilly’s rise.
According to Guardiola, “He had a long, long injury last season,” “I was like, ‘Wow,’ when he returned in the middle of the previous season and trained with us. “This man has positive traits.
He is strong in duels, has good header skills from corners, and moves well in confined spaces.
He can play both attacking and holding midfield, which is how you will see him come (in the box) as an attacking midfielder. We are fortunate to have these athletes because of the academy.
