The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its dedication to implementing efficient and long-lasting environmental management measures in order to guarantee a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment in a statement released on Sunday.
The significance of strategic planning in environmental governance was emphasized by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele during the 2025 Management Retreat of the Ministry of Environment and its sister agencies, the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency and the Ogun State Waste Management Authority, which was held in Abeokuta.
The statement claims that in order to improve the effectiveness of environmental service delivery throughout Ogun State, “the retreat offers a strategic opportunity for deep reflection, planning, and realignment of the state’s environmental policies and governance framework.” In order to implement policies more successfully, Salako-Oyedele advised the ministry and its sister agencies to improve interagency cooperation.
The administration acknowledges the vital role that a clean and well-managed environment plays in fostering economic growth, safeguarding public health, and advancing societal well-being, she said, emphasizing the necessity of coordinating state environmental policies with national and international sustainability goals.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ola Oresanya, highlighted the need for continuous staff training to enhance capacity at the management level.
He urged participants to make the most of the occasion, pointing out that the retreat, which is currently in its third year, was created to increase efficiency and service delivery.
The Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, spoke on behalf of the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, who urged attendees to put environmental safety first and uphold the laws that are required for the welfare of the local population.
The awarding of excellence to exceptional management personnel was a significant feature of the two-day retreat. Mrs. Yemisi Oshinaike was honored for her work at OGEPA, while Mrs. Taiwo Adebiyi was named the Ministry of Environment’s Best Management Staff.
Mr. Tunji Egbemuyiwa was appointed the 2025 Ogun State Environmental Ambassador, while Mr. Olajide Ayilara received recognition for his work at OGWAMA.
