Police ASP Commits Suicide

Shafi’u Bawa, an assistant superintendent of police in Niger State, is said to have killed himself on Saturday afternoon.

According to authorities, his father, Usman Bawa, who lived in the Rigasa neighborhood of Kontagora, reported the occurrence to the police command. It happened in the Kontagora Local Government Area.

On Saturday afternoon, Officer Bawa’s father went into the room and found his lifeless body hanging from the ceiling.

Later, when police officers reached the site, they took his body to the general hospital, where it was determined that he had passed away. After that, his remains were given to his family so they could be buried according to Islamic customs.

“On Saturday, 08/02/25, at approximately 14:10 hours, one Mr. Usman Bawa, male, of Rigasa area in Kontagora, reported that his son, AP/No 337979, ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa, committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling,” according to a police statement our correspondent was able to obtain.

After being brought to the General Hospital in Kontagora, the motionless body was examined by a physician who verified his passing. In accordance with Islamic customs, the body was given to the family to be buried. There will be further updates shared.

Wasiu Abiodun, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, did not return calls or a message sent to him via WhatsApp when asked for remarks.
