On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the seventeenth edition of the Headies, the world’s premier Afrobeats music award, will take place in Lagos.
This event, which honors singers from all genres in Nigeria, should have taken place last year, according to its originator and organizer, music industry tycoon Ayo Animashaun. Instead, it will now take place in the early months of the year, with the following edition taking place in December 2025.
On Wednesday, February 12, the 17th edition’s nominees list will be made public.
The Headies Stakeholders Brunch and the Nominees’ Party will kick off the festivities on March 29.
Ayo Animashaun, who is also the owner of Smooth Productions, said the week-long celebration of the industry’s development and creative inventiveness will be the culmination of the activities.
“In partnership with the NIFS, the summit is designed to drive collaboration between music, art, fashion, and technology. It will foster high level business conversations and deal-making and will showcase Nigeria’s global dominance in Afrobeats,” the statement partially posted on the Headies’ social media account reads in advance of the award.
The Headies Creative Summit, a game-changing event that is set to revolutionize the music industry, will be held April 3rd and 4th, 2025.
The Headies, the most awaited music award in Nigeria and, consequently, Africa, is returning with a bang, according to Animashuan, the owner of the cable music television network Hip TV. The Headies has been honoring musical excellence and fostering the expansion of the Nigerian music industry since 2006.
