In Lagos State on Saturday, Rabiu Kwankwaso, the national head of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), met behind closed doors with Rauf Aregbesola, the former interior minister.
From 2010 to 2018, Mr. Aregbesola served as the governor of Osun State. He was recently expelled from the All-Progressives Congress (APC) due to irreconcilable differences over purported exclusion.
Prior to the state’s 2026 governorship election, the NNPP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made overtures to Mr. Aregbesola when he left the APC, urging him and his followers to join them.
Mr. Kwankwaso shared some information and photos from the meeting on his X page.
Both leaders had the chance to have important conversations about national politics, governance, and the future of Nigeria’s democracy during the encounter.
Their conversation demonstrates a common dedication to advancing national development and bolstering democratic institutions.
Kwankwaso wrote, “The meeting afforded us the opportunity to engage in discussions on national politics, governance and the future of Nigeria’s democratic landscape.
