Due to suspected subterranean water contamination, the Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) has closed the Arolat Petrol Station on Abeokuta’s Ayetoro Roundabout Road.

According to Farouk Akintunde, Special Adviser to the Governor on Environmental Protection, this move is in response to a petition filed by the Foursquare Gospel Church, which is located next to the gas station. According to the petition, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) tainted the church’s sole water supply, a well.

In order to carry out a comprehensive investigation, the agency’s enforcement team sealed the gas station, according to Farouk.

The areas impacted, the degree of contamination, and the present condition of the subterranean water will all be evaluated by the probe.

“As a responsive and responsible agency, the safety and wellbeing of our people is paramount and must not be compromised for any reason.”

Until the investigation is over, the facility will stay sealed.
