Despite Manchester United’s interest, Leeds United has announced the signing of Robbie Cook, an Australia under-20 goalkeeper from Perth Glory.
The 18-year-old, who has represented Australia’s Under-17 and Under-21 teams at the international junior level, has agreed to a two-and-a-half-year professional contract with the Championship team and will join the Whites’ academy.
Leeds United released the following statement: Robbie Cook, a goalie, has joined Leeds United from Perth Glory in Australia.
The club is happy to announce his arrival. After rising through the ranks with A-League team Perth, the highly regarded and much sought-after 18-year-old arrives in West Yorkshire and will immediately join the Academy at Thorp Arch.
The goalie has played for Australia’s Under-17 and Under-20 teams on the international scene.
Cook has signed a professional contract with Elland Road that will last until the summer of 2027 and last for two and a half years.
“Robbie is welcomed to Leeds United by all of us, and we are excited to watch his future growth.”
Following a trial period in the UK with Sunderland and Leeds, Cook was pursued by teams in the top three divisions, including United, who had been keeping an eye on the young talent for some time. With Cook joining the team, Leeds, who currently
lead the Championship, might have a team that can win the championship.
