The Onogie of Udo-Eguare, a traditional leader in Edo Central, was abducted on February 3 but has since been freed by Edo State Police Command operations.

The rescue operation happened on Friday at around 6 p.m., according to a statement released on Saturday in Benin, the state capital, by CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s public relations officer.

He said that the Edo State Government, vigilantes, hunters, and other well-meaning citizens of the state helped make the rescue feasible through persistent police efforts.

Yamu claimed that her team put in a lot of effort to fulfill the commitment made by the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Otimenyin, to free the abducted traditional ruler.

According to him, the command expressed gratitude to the state government and credited Monday Okpebholo, the governor, for providing the logistical support that made the success possible.

The command also thanks hunters, vigilantes, and other well-meaning citizens of the State for their assistance thus far. “The command’s commitment to the fight against crime remains unshaken,” Yamu assured the people.
