Oyo/Osun Customs Area Command, in January 2025, it intercepted illegal products worth N202 million in duty-paid value and made over N7.8 billion in revenue.
The announcement was made on Friday in Ibadan by Customs Area Controller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, who was presenting the Command’s 2024 and January 2025 scorecard to reporters.
According to Oramalugo, the accomplishment was made in spite of the current state of the economy and the introduction of several fiscal measures meant to stimulate it.
40 kegs of 25 liters of Premium Motor Spirit, 1,667 used tires, 32 bales of used clothing, two sacks of used shoes, and 170 bags of 50 kg foreign rice were among the seizures, according to his list.
“Oramalugo characterized the 2024 income collecting performance of the Command as outstanding and commendable.
“The Command brought in N82.2 billion for the Federal Government in 2024. Compared to the N71.2 billion collected in 2023, the amount collected is 15.3% greater.
“He said that 2024’s total revenue was the highest since the Command’s founding.
Oramalugo added that the Command had made great strides in combating illegal activities that threatened Nigeria’s security and hindered the development of domestic industry.
When compared to the N451.4 million DPV in 2023, he said that the N5.3 billion in seizures and interceptions of illegal products in 2024 was enormous.
He noted that from December 20, 2024, and January 31, the Command detected and confiscated smuggled commodities valued at N202 million in duty-paid value.
“We stayed committed to safeguarding the interests of regional manufacturing and industries as we conducted these anti-smuggling operations.
“By keeping cheaper, inferior, and dangerous products out of our markets, we were able to support local producers and protect the health and safety of our citizens,” Oramalugo stated.
He said that the smuggling of counterfeit medications and other illegal products inside the Command’s coverage area had significantly decreased as a result of the interception and seizures.
Oramalugo, who said he had been deployed to Seme Command, appreciated the personnel for their support, adding that the achievement would not have been possible without them.
He thanked the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi, and his management team for their support and for giving him higher responsibilities.
