Two killed, Many Injured as Gunmen Invade Lagos Community

The Ijegun Egba neighbourhood in Lagos State’s Ori Ade Local Government area was invaded by gunmen, who killed two people and injured a number of others.

Oladapo Olukoya and Gbenga Areagbo, a 40-year-old man who had been living with sickle cell disease, were identified as the deceased.

According to reports, the gunmen who broke into the neighbourhood on Tuesday and began firing intermittently took the dead with them.

One of the residents said, “The thugs were from Ibasa. Last Thursday, they attacked one Wasiu Ademola from our community, inflicting injuries on him. They wanted to take him to Ibasa through the river, but Wasiu told them he was not from our community.”

Three days after the attack on Wasiu, the armed men came again on Friday to Zone 2 area of the town and started harassing people. They were trying to identify members of our community. They had someone who identified members of our community among the crowd. They robbed both residents and passersby in the area when they did not see any of their targets, another resident said.

According to Saeed Ayinde, a community leader, the killing was reported to the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Alagbon, Lagos.

He clarified that the thugs, armed with cutlasses and firearms, arrived in three cars and motorcycles.

At Ade Oshodi intersection in Ijegun Egba, he was seated with his friend Lateef Arowolo when the thugs with guns and ammo broke in.
