During Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup semifinal win last night, fans had a good time mocking Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Arteta protested after the first leg defeat about the Puma balls used in this season’s League Cup.
Arteta explained: “It’s just different. It flies very differently from a Premier League ball, therefore you must adapt.
When you touch it, the grip is really different, so you adjust to that.”
After Anthony Gordon scored for the home team last night, Newcastle fans mocked Arteta with cries like “It must be the ball, it must be the ball, Mikel Arteta, it must be the ball.”
The crowd then sang “he’s going to cry in a minute” before the final whistle.
Then, following the 4-0 aggregate triumph, Newcastle’s media staff shared a photo of the match ball on social media with the caption: “The culprit.”
