Cars using the Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi Highway now have to pay toll gate costs of up to N1,600, according to the Nigerian government, which is led by President Bola Tinubu.

This was revealed by Works Minister David Umahi on Tuesday during the road’s Garaku Toll Plaza axis opening.

According to the government, toll gate fees vary based on the type of automobile or vehicle and can range from N500 to N1,600.

Additionally, the government exempted tricycles, ambulances, diplomatic cars, and security vehicles from paying the costs.

Bello Goronyo, the Minister of State for Works, represented Mr. Umahi.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Goronyo, “The Abuja-Keffi-Akwanga-Makurdi project is the first among the nine corridors being concessioned under the Highways Development and Management Initiative (HDMI) Phase 1 to commence operations.”

“In the coming months, the Federal Government will continue with the launching and operationalisation of the remaining ones located across the six geopolitical zones of this country.

He said, “This initiative has opened a new chapter in the history of Nigeria, as it allows the Federal Government to overcome bad routes.”
