Assistant Comptroller of Immigration AS Akinlabi has been appointed as the new Service Public Relations Officer with immediate effect by Nigeria Immigration Service Comptroller General Kemi Nandap.
Dr. Adedotun Aridegbe, the Comptroller General’s Principal Staff Officer, made this announcement in a statement headed “New Spokesperson Appointed for Nigeria Immigration Service,” which was made public on Wednesday.
According to the statement, “this appointment comes after the Senior Staff Posting Order issued on January 31, 2025, which posted Kenneth Udo, the Deputy Comptroller of Immigration’s immediate past Service Public Relations Officer, as Passport Control Officer, Akwa Ibom State Command.”
Akinlabi is from Oyo State’s Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.
He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master of Arts in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria in 2003 and 2015, respectively. He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria.
The new spokesperson joined the Nigerian Immigration Service on December 29, 2006, and finished the Immigration Training School in Kano’s Superintendent Basic Course in December 2007.
Additionally, he took a lot of specialized courses in border management, security, and migration.
He was sent to the Service Headquarters in January 2008, where he obtained experience in a number of Service Directorates, including Protocol, Accounts and Finance, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and other Travel Documents.
He served as a pioneer employee of the then-new Nigeria Immigration Service Contact Center, where he finally rose to the position of Second-in-Command (2 I/C) at the SERVICOM Unit, which has a direct operational connection to public relations efforts, according to the statement.
Akinlabi was an Immigration Attache in the Nigerian Embassy in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands, prior to his most recent post.
