At 2:00 PM on Tuesday, a collision involving a Lexus ES 350 and a Zafira 1.8 Space Waggon along the Abeokuta-Ibadan highway near Ajobo village in the Odeda local government area of Ogun State killed one person and seriously injured six others.
Abiodun Michael, 26, was driving a Lexus car towards Abeokuta from Ibadan when he reportedly failed to slow down at a sharp bend, lost control, and veered off his lane, colliding head-on with a Zafira car driven by Popoola Kayode, 55.
The police public relations officer for Ogun State command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the driver of the Zafira car died instantly and six of his passengers were injured to varying degrees.
She claimed that on receiving the information, the DPO Odeda division promptly despatched motor traffic police and patrol teams to the spot to rescue the victims and secure the area.
According to her, the driver of the Lexus and his passengers left the scene, while the injured were taken to General Hospital in Odeda for immediate medical care.
Those who had fractures were then taken to FMC Idi-Aba in Abeokuta for further specialised care.
