A terrible fire that overtook Almajiri school in Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, claimed the lives of at least 17 pupils.
The incident happened on Tuesday night and fire raged for about three hours before being subdued.
It was discovered that there were panicked scenes as the fire quickly spread across the school grounds, trapping a number of the younger pupils.
Some other pupils were hurt and are now being treated at nearby hospitals.
On Wednesday, Zagazola Makama verified this on his X handle as well, indicating that witnesses called the fire “destructive” and that its ferocity hindered efforts to contain it.
Emergency personnel and local officials came to the scene to provide assistance, he continued, but by that time, the fire had already claimed a number of lives.
