Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has attacked his successor, Uba Sani, harshly, accusing him of sycophancy and caving in to President Bola Tinubu for his own benefit.

Sani’s comments in a TVC News interview on Monday, in which the governor expressed surprise at the mounting criticism of Tinubu’s administration from some founding members of the All Progressives Congress, came after El-Rufai’s criticism.

El-Rufai responded on Tuesday using his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle, alleging that over N150 billion in federal payments that Kaduna State had received over the previous 18 months were related to Sani’s steadfast support for Tinubu.

“I used to wonder why this governor would ramble in such an awkward and sycophantic manner every day. But now that it has been confirmed that Tinubu has granted Kaduna more than N150 billion in Federal Government “reimbursements, interventions, and grants” over the past 18 months, everything makes sense.

“Defend Asiwaju for the conditional cash transfer at all costs. From you, Asiwaju has earned it. At the appropriate time and location, the people of Kaduna State will render their judgment. Good luck with your day,” El-Rufai tweeted.

In the TV interview, Sani criticized several APC members for publicly opposing Tinubu’s policies, calling their acts “undemocratic” and “unfortunate.”

“When I heard that the political alliance was banding together at this crucial moment to make the majority of those remarks, I was quite taken aback. In a manner that I believe is undemocratic, some of them were even urging people to take laws into their own hands and rebel against the government,” Sani stated.”

Sani challenged Tinubu’s detractors, telling them that if they thought they were strong enough to overthrow the president, they should wait for the 2027 elections.

“Naturally, I also want to emphasize that we are in a democratic era and that the next election is in roughly two and a half years. Any politician who believes he can defeat the APC or Bola Ahmed Tinubu should put in a lot of effort and run for office in the upcoming election,” he continued.
