In response to the recent government-approved tariff increase by the nation’s telecom firms, organized labor has canceled its plans to stage a statewide demonstration on Tuesday, the Federal Government announced Monday night.
This was revealed by Mohammed Idris, the minister of information, following a meeting between organized labor leaders and federal officials.
George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, led the Federal Government delegation.
Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC, headed Labour.
A 10-member committee, with five members from each side, was established as part of the agreements negotiated.
Its purpose is to examine the tariff hike report and provide remedies that take into account the worries of consumers and cellular operators.
In two weeks, the committee is supposed to submit its conclusions.
