Seven people were charged with the murder of Awesu Mojisola, a final-year student at Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, in the state’s Offa Local Government Area, before a Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, on Monday, February 3
The deceased, who was allegedly drawn to Ilorin by Timileyin Kolawole and one Happiness Adebayo, was killed and her body was disposed of at a landfill in the Warah locality of Ilorin between August 8 and August 9, 2024.
Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, the prime suspects, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, Happiness’s two parents, and Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus, the three employees of the hotel where the late Mojisola was allegedly murdered, were among those charged before the court.
The seven defendants were charged with six counts, including conspiracy, murder, disappearance, evidence destruction, and disposing of the body at a site.
According to the 2006 Kwara State Penal Code Law, Happiness Adebayo and his parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, were charged with plotting to cause the destruction and disappearance of evidence.
According to the Kwara state Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018, Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus were charged with plotting and disposing of Mojisola Awesu’s body at a site on Warah Road in Ilorin.
They were charged with plotting and causing Awesu Mojisola’s killing on August 9, 2024.
Mr. Ayoola Akande, the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, together with five other attorneys, declared his appearance on behalf of the prosecution when the case was brought before the court on Monday. Barrister F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko attended on behalf of the parents and hotel staff.
However, because Happiness and Timileyin, the main suspects, without legal counsel, the case could not proceed and no plea was accepted from the seven accused.
“The principal accused persons, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, be remanded in correctional facility while the case was adjourned till February, 24, 2025 for proper arraignment of the accused persons,” Justice Adebayo Yusuf, the court’s presiding judge, decided.
