Yomi Adelowo, a well-known public affairs commentator and a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has endorsed Mojisola Meranda, the recently elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Speaking to reporters in Ikeja, the capital of Lagos State, Adelowo said Meranda would not be distracted by the difficult tasks ahead because of her extensive political background as a former Senior Special Assistant on Intervention and Inter-Governmental Relations in Apapa Local Government, a former Supervisor for Health in the same Apapa Local Government, a former Chairman of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) in the 8th Assembly, a former Chairman of the House Committee on Establishment, Training, Pension, and Public Service, a former Chief Whip of the 9th Assembly, and a former Deputy Speaker.
He attested that the new Speaker would succeed in her new position due to her impressive professional background, which includes her previous positions as the Director of the Land Information System Support Unit (LISSU) of the Surveyor General’s office, Office Manager, Cirrus Nigeria, Lekki, Lagos, Founder/Chief Executive Officer, Worthline International Services Limited, and Personal Assistant to the SSA on Information Technology, Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, during Bola Tinubu’s administration as the State Governor.
But according to Adelowo, Meranda is a natural and experienced politician whose enthusiasm for bringing about change and influencing people’s lives from a political perspective is apparent in a number of ways.
Being a member of the APC, the now-defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN), and the Alliance for Democracy (AD), he added, “she has always been progressive. It is a big challenge that she must ensure that she upholds the core values and principles of the APC.”
He went on to say that the new Speaker’s educational journey, which started at St. Charles Nursery and Primary School, Randle Primary School, Anglican Girls’ Grammar School, and Ansar-Ud-Deen Secondary School in Surulere for her secondary education before she earned the West African School Certificate, or WASC, demonstrated her dedication to learning and achieving excellence.
After Mudashiru Obasa was impeached in January, Meranda was chosen to serve as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
According to reports, the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council meets to decide the former speaker’s fate while he challenges his dismissal.
