Disgruntled employees of Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, who went on strike on Monday, promised to keep going until their demands were granted, causing a water crisis in some areas of the city and surrounding areas on Tuesday.
IREPORT247NEW reports that 900 workers were fired by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) The workers have gone on indefinite strike after being fired.
According to the corporation, the employees’ pension will be deposited into their retirement savings account with their Pension Fund Administrator (PFA) and the net benefit is credited to their account.
“We refer to your offer of employment and write to inform you that your services will no longer be required by the company, effective January 31, 2025. This decision was not made lightly and reflects our commitment to adapting our operations to meet current challenges, the company stated.
“Upon receipt of this letter, you are expected to return all company property including work tools and your staff identification card to the Human Resources Department without delay.”
However, on the second day of strike, Some people had to walk long distances to obtain water for cooking and drinking from the few boreholes in their neighbourhoods that were supplied by solar energy or generators.
As people flocked to the few generator-powered boreholes, the price of water offered by cart-borne water vendors has gone up.
Members of the National Union of electrical Employees demanded that the administration of the electrical firm revoke the letters of disengagement that were sent to the 900 employees.
The workers also claimed that a former military governor of Kano state, who currently holds a significant stake in the company, was responsible for the current issue between them and the business.
