PHERMC Closes Unregistered Hospital in Kuje
Dada’s Clinic & Maternity, an unregistered health facility located in Kapwa, Gaube Community within the Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been closed by the Private Health Establishments Registration and Monitoring Committee (PHERMC).
According to Lere Olayinka, the FCT minister’s senior special assistant on public communications and social media, the clinic’s operator, Mr. Sabiu, was also taken into custody and taken to Kuje Police Station.
Olayinka stated that an investigation was conducted on February 2, 2025, at around 3:32 p.m., in response to the clinic’s alleged activities.
“Part of the statement read, “The facility was accused of operating without proper registration and performing medical procedures in a rented apartment deemed unsuitable for healthcare services, falsely presenting itself as a Medical Outreach.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that a community elder had tragically passed away following a hernia operation at the clinic, while other reports indicated several patients who had barely survived procedures and subsequently required emergency care at other facilities.
“At the time of the inspection, three patients were present, including an elderly individual receiving intravenous treatment.
“All patients were found to be stable and were promptly referred to Kuje General Hospital for appropriate medical care. Following this, the clinic was sealed, and Mr. Sabiu was handed over to police for further investigation at around 6:00 PM.”
Barr Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, said that all unregistered medical establishments will be closed going forward in order to protect people from dangerous medical procedures.
