On Sunday, the Lagos State Task Force announced the arrest of 22 alleged criminals who were terrorizing the Obalende and TBS bus terminals on Lagos Island.

According to a statement issued by the task force spokesperson, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the arrest followed a report by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority’s management about the activities of some hoodlums in the terminals.

Abdulraheem stated that after receiving the allegation, the operatives sprang into action and swooped on the suspects, who specialized in targeting unsuspecting members of the public.

He stated, “In response to frequent complaints from residents of Obalende about the activities of hoodlums and miscreants who attack innocent persons, the Lagos State Task Force has taken decisive measures to restore safety in the region.

“This occurred against the backdrop of rising complaints from the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority administration, who also sought the task force’s participation, claiming that criminal elements had converted the TBS Bus Terminal into a hideout for their unlawful activities.

“On Saturday night, operatives of the Lagos State Task Force, led by Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, raided the site and detained 22 suspected criminals who were carrying hazardous weapons and hard drugs. They were using the terminal as a base to unleash attacks on unsuspecting commuters and residents.

Reacting to the arrest, Akerele who spoke through Abdulraheem, stressed the agency’s commitment to ensuring sanity in the area.

He also stated that the agency would continue to monitor other bus terminals in the state on a regular basis to prevent miscreants and hoodlums from operating there.

“CSP Akerele restated the state government’s commitment to safeguarding Lagosians’ safety and upholding peace and order throughout the state. He cautioned that anyone who engaged in criminal activity or made life unpleasant for law-abiding residents would face the full wrath of the law.

“Akerele also informed the management and residents that the agency’s normal patrols and surveillance would be directed towards the area to prevent a recurrence of the previous nasty episodes.

“The Lagos State Task Force remains steadfast in its mission to rid the state of crime and ensure public safety in all public locations. Residents are asked to continue reporting suspicious activity in the environment via the agency’s feedback channels in order to collectively maintain the decorum seen throughout the metropolis,” Abdulraheem said.
